Creative Showcase 2018

So… the dust has finally settled on our Creative Showcase for this Academic Year and I am now finding the time to sit down and reflect on the event.  This year’s showcase, as in previous years, was a great success.  On the evening of Thursday 24th May, an estimated 350 visitors joined us to view this year’s work from our Photography, Animation, CADD and Architectural Technology students.

The showcase, held in Motherwell Campus, featured our HND Photography exhibition in the ground floor atrium, the HNC Photography exhibition in the 1st floor Internet Cafe and our NQ Photography exhibition also in the ground floor atrium.  Both the HNC and HND exhibitions will be on permanent display until next year’s showcase.  If you didn’t get a chance to join us on the evening then you have the opportunity to browse the images at your leisure the next time you are in Motherwell Campus!

The showcase also gave us the opportunity to recognise our students’ success and award prizes for student of the year in each class group and print of the year selected from all photographs on display.

Student of the year for NQ Photography was awarded to Jules Greggain.  This prize was presented by Bobby Gavin from sponsors Wex Photographic.  Thank you to Bobby and Wex for their continued support of all of our photography courses.

HNC Photography student of the year was awarded to Sofia Conti.

Our HND Photography student of the year award was presented to Samantha Sweeney who managed to complete a hat-trick after being awarded student of the year during her NQ and HNC years with us.

Our final award for the evening was for Print of the Year.  This award is selected by Loxley Colour and voted for by members of staff within their Cumbernauld lab.  The lab choose the winning image from all images displayed within the exhibition, NQ through to HND.  The worthy winner this year was Jim McFarlane for his stunning image of Cove Harbour.

The prizes for HNC & HND Student of the Year and the Print of the Year were all sponsored by Loxley Colour.  We thank Jacqueline Hanratty for attending on the evening to present the prizes and for everyone at Loxley Colour for their continued support of all of our photography students.

Thanks must also be extended to everyone who made this year’s showcase another success.  Lecturers from the associated curriculum areas who coordinated to plan and run the event, the marketing team, estates, hospitality and the faculty & senior management for their support of the event.

Following the speeches and prizegiving we then enjoyed an evening of viewing all of the images and student work on display.  A great evening was enjoyed by all and for us as lecturers it was a wonderful event to see so many of our students celebrating what has been a busy, rewarding and fulfilling year.  Here are some more images from the evening, shot by our HNC students Kirstie Traynor and Margaret Ann McKenna.

Until next year…

  1. I am I interested in attending a photography course, either part or full time. Could you please forward me details of any courses available in the near future.

    1. Hi John,

Thanks for your enquiry regarding our Photography courses. There is a FT course called Access to Photography which starts at the end of January. More details are available on the website. It is a 6 month course designed to let potential photographers see how we operate in the department and allow, in some case, students to get back into education.. After the course has concluded, anyone who achieves the correct standard can then move on a FT NQ course for one year before moving to HN level.

      Hope that helps.
