New College Lanarkshire photography students have once again struck gold at the annual British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) Student Awards. A total of 6 awards were collected by students in our HNC and HND classes across 3 categories in the competition.
This year’s awards were held in Meow Studios, Edinburgh which were transformed from working photographic studios to an awards reception for the occasion. Over 70 entrants attended the awards to see the winners revealed.
From over 450 entries judges Alan McEwan and Marco Joe Fazio had the task of selecting the winners. A total of 33 awards were made on the night across 5 competition categories, the committee award and the overall student of the year award.
The first awards to be collected by NCL were in the Photojournalism category where HND student Heather Callaghan was awarded Merit for her image “Time Well Spent”.
The next award was presented to Megan Sharpe, HND Photography, who also picked up a Merit for her image “Tears for Heroes”. This moving image depicting an intimate moment was captured as part of a coursework assignment at the Remembrance Service in George Square, Glasgow in November.
Two more awards were collected by HNC Photography students in the Advertising Category. Adel Qotrunada picked up a Merit award for her image “Guess the Time”.
Connor O’Neill then collected a Silver award for his image “Scarlet Splash”, an advertising shot for a Nike training shoe.
The final category of the awards was the open category, the largest in the competition. Two more awards were collected by NCL students. HND student Anthony Donnelly was awarded a merit for his image “Rannoch Waters”.
To round off the event the Gold award in the Open category was presented to HNC student Vikki O’Brien for her image “Stillness beneath the crossings”. A unique capture which features all 3 Forth crossings in one shot.
Congratulations to all award winners in the competition. As always the standard of entries was extremely high and New College Lanarkshire is delighted to bring home these awards in recognition of the hard work and dedication of our students.
