On 10th March NQ Photography left behind the confines of the college. The first part of the day involved a train trip to Waverly station, where they started their search for an interesting Architectural image.

Lying on the floor of the waiting room got the students a few strange looks but hey! we are photography students.

A walk up Calton Hill gave a great vantage point for a 360 view of Edinburgh although a few comments included- “are we walking up that hill too?” whilst pointing towards Arthur’s seat.

      

We made some new friends too.

A walk around Calton graveyard showed some interesting features and a discussion on bracketing and HDR images to record a wider range of tones in an image.

As we walked along Princes street heading for a well earned break the students made good use of the area to work on their photography skills, although for some I am not sure if this an opportunity to get a new angle or just a rest.

  

As we can see Wkitoria was a bit afraid of the Bear but nothing frightens Kirstie!!

After a short break we were eager to get more images. The route now was a walk up behind the Castle were I pointed out some vantage points to be explored another day. Not letting an opportunity pass them by, a yellow car drew the students attention.

Traffic duty was called for as they looked for that special angle.

A  short walk around the Esplanade and we headed down the Royal Mile towards St. Giles cathedral. Passing an RSPB stand invited a photocall for this obliging owl.

Inside St Giles Cathedral we were lucky enough to have the place almost to ourselves for almost half an hour. This gave the students the chance to practice their floor technique with a helpful friend making sure they did not get stood on.

Although the skies were Grey, the students enjoyed the chance to practice their skills and captured a few images that can be used for submission in their Media unit.

Another trip is planned, next time to Glasgow when we will visit Glasgow University, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Riverside Museum.
