Here within photography we love the opportunity to collaborate… Getting out of the classroom to work on “live” projects gives us the chance to put into practice all those conversations we have about working as a professional photographer. How do we work with clients? What sort of kit do we need to take? What if something goes wrong?
Recently some of our HND students headed over to Eden nightclub in Coatbridge – no, it wasn’t a class night out… They met up with some lecturers and students from the Fashion Make-Up courses to shoot the looks from their latest assignment.

This was a great opportunity for the photographers to meet and work with other students within the creative industries. Working on a live brief adds that additional pressure of making sure that you have satisfied what all parties involved are looking for.
What did the students think about the day…
I felt quite nervous to begin with but soon got the swing of it and enjoyed it. I learnt to trust my abilities a bit more and enjoy the experience of working within that environment.

Something I struggled with was lighting the scene. Photographing in a nightclub is something I have never done before so I was slightly worried. Once I used a bit of my knowledge and got help from my teammates, I was able to really enjoy the shoot and came away with some of my best portraiture images I have taken to date.

The above final image from Mandi shows how the teamwork and using all the knowledge that has been gained during the course can give you an outstanding final result.
Was nice to do something that pushed me out my comfort zone, as never experienced this kind of setting before, but overall a fantastic experience.
