We are delighted to congratulate Nikolai Zemljanikov, an HND Photography student, on his recent success in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards. Nikolai was awarded third place for his portfolio of images entered in the student category of the awards.
The theme for the student category, which students must submit a portfolio of 3 images, this year was “water”. Nikolai entered a series of images shot at Sandford Fall, near Strathaven, featuring waterfalls. His images show a creative use of the camera and in particular slow shutter speed to create a milky effect in the water – a common landscape photographer’s favourite technique! Being able to create a diverse selection of images from one place really takes some talent.
Here are Nikolai’s winning images:
Nikolai was pipped to second place in the competition by a recent New College Lanarkshire alumni. Megan Maher-McCrystal, who is now studying for her BA (Hons) Photography at Edinburgh Napier University, took second place with a series of images of Scottish Waters. These images are a continuation of some of the work she completed as part of her HND here at Motherwell Campus.
Congratulations to both Nikolai and Megan we hope you both have much success with your photography in the future!
