Our New College Lanarkshire photography students celebrated great success at the Master Photographers Association (MPA) Scottish Region Awards.
A group of 23 staff and students attended the Black Tie event at The Grange Manor, Grangemouth earlier this week to hear the judges results. We enjoyed networking and drinks with almost 90 professional photographers from around Scotland followed by a 3 course meal.
The highlight of the evening though was the announcement of the awards. Our students had to be patient as our awards were to be made in the final category of the evening. However, it was worth the wait…
New College Lanarkshire brought home a total of 62 awards from the event! 47 Merit awards were presented to 19 students for images across a broad range of genres including portraiture, fashion, advertising, photojournalism, landscape and documentary.
Cheers and whoops filled the air as each student made their way to collect their award from the regional chairman. Some professional photographers commented on how it really livened up the evening! Additionally, 14 awards of excellence were then presented to 9 students whose work had shown an extra level of creativity, skill and talent receiving extra credit from the judges.
However, the biggest cheer of the evening was raised when the overall student photographer of the year was announced. HND Photography student Fabrizio Fella was awarded the accolade for a fashion image featuring a model styled in bright yellows and greens within a “spring” theme.
Judges and other professional photographers commented on the standard of the students’ work. They acknowledged that the quality overall was incredibly high and would set the students in good stead for launching a career in the industry once they had finished their studies.
Congratulations to all of the winners, this success is a recognition of the hard work and dedication that you all apply to your studies!
